SHANGHAI December 26th, 2016 Gasgoo – Limits and measurement methods for emissions from light-duty vehicles (China 6) was jointly issued by State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and Ministry of Environmental Protection on December 23th. Two emission limit projects, National Sixth A and National Sixth B, are set in the standards, which will be implemented in the year 2020 and 2023 respectively. National Sixth Standards are one of the strictest limit standards in the world.
According to relevant person in charge in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, “National Sixth Standards” are an upgraded version of the current “National Fifth Standards”. Instead of following European standards, the new standards are set in a bold and innovative way, leading the world for the first time. He also said that the new standards could have impacts in eliminating outdated capacity and leading industrial upgrading under the background of over-capacity in auto industry. Besides, the standards will also meet the demands in key areas of improving air quality and tightening auto emission standards.
Six technological breakthroughs are made in the “National Sixth Standards”. One, the standards adopt a globally unified test procedure for light-duty vehicles, effectively decreasing the gap between laboratory certified emissions and actual emissions. Two, actual driving emission test is introduced to effectively prevent cheating behaviors. Three, fuel neutral principles no longer make less limits for nitrogen oxide from diesel-engine vehicles and particulates from gasoline-engine vehicles. Four, the control for emissions of VOCs will be strengthened. Five, the auto diagnostic system will be improved. Six, the inspection regulations and methods for authorities will be simplified to make it more practical.
